My Wife As a MomBy Thankful Dads Family Man asked a few guys out there: What about your wife/partner do you especially like about her role as a mother? These are their responses... Just one of the things I love about wife as a mother is that she can "outsilly" my children, who are some of God's most naturally silly creations. Everyone laughs a lot, but more importantly, they're learning a great lesson about perspective and not taking yourself or anything else too seriously. -- David Raizman, father of three My wife is an artist. I am not. My wife never painted inside the lines. I always did. My wife sees a blank canvas as opportunity. I see it as a barrier. I always hoped that artistically, my children would be like Annie. I love that she inspires Zack and Violet to create and to be artistic. They have no fear of any medium. They create art with whatever material they have at their disposal. My children knew basic color theory at the age of two. Best of all, they paint outside the lines. -- David Lewis, father of two In many ways, my wife is the parent that I strive to be. She shows great patience, love and care. She is keenly attuned to our children and their moods and is very sensitive to the their strengths and weakness and how their minds work. She gives them space to grow, room to fall, and love to enable them to get back on their feet again. In doing so, she inspires me to be a better parent and person. -- Jonathan Bernhard, father of three You know your wife is an awesome mom when her sons call her "Sunshine!" -- Harmon Kaslow, father of four The Beatles sang "All You Need Is Love," but as Keith Richards pointed out, "Try to live on it." All cynicism aside, it's love, respect, and kindness that keeps us together. In her role as a mother, my wife has a knack for knowing when to get strict with our children and when to smile and let things go. Parents need to trust each other's parenting instincts and I trust her completely. My wife is a part-time teacher by day and a full-time teacher/mom to our children the rest of the time. She is the love of my life and the proverbial glue that holds our family together. -- Greg Thompson, father of three We encourage more dads to sing the praises of their wives/partners by emailing us at gregory@familymanonline.com. |
